Champagne, Baby

I'm super absorbed in this fantastic literature right now, so I haven't been writing as much as I should be lately:

« Ex-girl to the Next Girl
by Daaimah S. Poole-Dafina

Here's the brilliant synopsis:

Malik is a good-looking man with a reputation for being unfaithful to the women in his life. He and Kimberly are engaged, yet he is also seriously involved with Shonda, who crashes their wedding. Kimberly goes into a deep depression until she meets Andrew. Malik and Shonda get married, and she starts working as a prison guard. To replace the finances that Malik no longer contributes, Shonda begins earning extra money by breaking prison rules. She also gets romantically involved with an inmate who claims his innocence but is found guilty of all charges. Malik finds a new job preparing taxes and meets Nadine, a single schoolteacher. They date until Shonda confronts Nadine in her classroom. Nadine tells Malik about Shonda's visit and questions his status. He admits being married, and Nadine breaks off the relationship. She then realizes how much she misses her old boyfriend, Erick, who takes her back. All the former partners in this absorbing read are eventually held accountable for their bad choices.

So you can't really blame me, its like Danielle Steele novel but like 200x better. Plus, I'm trying to cut down the hours I watch soap operas.

Also I'm disappointed I didn't hear back from the soap opera casting director yet, which is why I downed a half bottle of percocet...

Vote for my Party Dress

Indeed, early this evening I got the OK to pick out a new dress for the huge mansion gala we are attending this weekend. Since I've been thinking about this event over the last few months, letting the important implications of such a huge event slowly sink into my mind, I've narrowed it down to 3 dresses, but I just can't decide... each one is so lovely in its own way. This means I need help from you readers. If you had the money to spend, which dress would you wear to the richest man in West Palm Beach's mansion gala benefit ball? Post a comment with your vote, and I'll wear it!

« Gucci. Floor skimming, carnation pink ruffled silk with hand-sewn crystal & silver pieces lambskin bodice. The silk is 100% Iranian Mountain Silkworm, very rare, and the lambskin is from Jerusalem's countryside wild lambs, which have a reputation for having the softest lambskin on earth. Yum, reminds me of cake.

« Vera Wang. Electric-aquamarine princess dress with heart-scooped neck and full skirt. Emblased with vintage crystals from the Salton Sea and crushed shark teeth from Africa's Northern Coast.

« Marc Jacobs. Strapless floor-length gown made of gorgeous lavender satin from Paraguay. The whole gown is hand-sewn and the bodice has crushed amethyst pieces sewn into beautiful vertical rows.

I was put on this earth to spend money, not manage it

I was put on this earth to spend money, not manage it. That's why I don't understand when my husband gets angry about my spending habits. For god sake's, he's a multi-millionaire venture capitalist! What kind of damage could my credit card do?

« Apparently enough to warrant a "credit card suspension", I found out after purchasing this tennis bracelet at Tiffany's. I was told I have "no respect for hard work when I pursue an impulse buy at $6,000".

"The fact that my birthstone is involved merits no mercy?" I ask.

"Absolutely not."

I also picked up this incredibly cute little necklace (which was priced a bit more reasonably) v

Nonetheless, at least I didn't have to return the bracelet, which would have been nothing but embarrassing. Whats the point of having a beautiful wife like me to love and cherish if I am not truly free to pursue everything I want? All my husband has now–who, by the way, by vow is required to provide for me and keep me happy at all times–is a depressed woman moping around his house, catching up on soap operas. (Which I am readily enjoying. Who knew you could miss so much in just 3 days? Babe is pregnant, Jack is dead, and Jess tried to kill someone again.)

We have a huge gala coming up this weekend, so I am certain the credit card suspension that has turned my life into a living nightmare will soon be replaced by gentle kisses and a prodding to "purchase the only dress that fills my heart's desire", one of my favorite phrases whispered by my husband. This phrase also implies that I must be the most gorgeous, most desired, and best dressed wife at the party. Which is what I do best.

Soap Opera Star or Bust

Wow, I was skimming through our local newspaper today and saw an advertisement already for The New World. When I saw it, right away I had a funny feeling come over me...that I was going to be starring in it. I cut it out right away and framed it for our foyer. If I don't land the role, I am going to be depressed for a year. I just can't wait for my 3rd audition, I'm going to nail it.

Me, Soap Opera Star

So today I went in for my second audition for the soap opera The New World and I think it went well. I showed up looking fabulous (as usual, mon chere) in my new Pucci heels and a pink snake skin minidress that I found last week on sale at Saks that fits me like a glove. At first I was going to wear something that perhaps summoned the nostalgia of the era, but after a day of shopping and no luck, I decided for a modern look with the snake skin.

If you ask me, you just cannot go wrong with animal prints, be it leopard, zebra, or python. I know its illegal, but I would love to don myself in a leopard skin one day. That is, if I ever leave Florida. It's a little hot here to be wearing a fur around, even if it is as marvelous as a leopard.

The funny part is that the director kept hitting on me. He even asked me out for a martini after the audition even though I clearly have a 225 K diamond ring on my wedding finger. Do people have no tact these days? Obviously I am a high commodity, and my husband loves me very much. Not to mention the whole professional-work-ethic ("keep business and pleasure separate") standard. I mean, I am not a prize to be won–I've already been won. Anyways, after I explained that I was a married woman, while waving my hand around, he confessed he just couldn't resist persuading me to have 1 little drink with me after the audition, because I "am stunningly beautiful". 1 drink didn't sound too bad after all... and besides, maybe I could blind him with my beauty and land my dream role.

We ended up heading to the Blue Martini Lounge, on of my favorite places to relax after a long day of work. I had a strawberry mint martini that was to die for, while we chatted about the Soap Opera and how exciting it was to be working on a more serious period piece rather than your run of the mill The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful. The director explained that he thought this new soap might be the dawn of a new era: a completely new way of filming and directing soaps, The New World will produced a higher standard of daytime TV and attract new audiences. This is all so exciting to me, and for the icing on the cake, I was offered a 3rd audition for the role of Cherish, a central role in The New World, a poor prostitute dreaming of becoming more.

I Have the Best Pet Ever

So I'm a model, but the reality of the matter is my beloved cat Sophia is a far more famous model. And as far as cats and modeling goes, Sophia is the Kate Moss of cats. Sophia is, in fact, the face of Purina Cat Chow.

Now Sophia could be a really high-maitenance prissy kind of cat, but she's not. She's completely humble and sweet for being so incredibly beautiful. And thats why I love her. My husband is even allergic to cats, but he let me keep her because he knows I would be so devastated without Sophia. Being the owner of a cat that is a supermodel is comparable to a man owning a woman that is a supermodel, so I feel pretty lucky.

« Sophia, my cat. The best behaved and most beautiful cat in the whole world.

Perfect Host Rule 1: Keep the Glasses & Stomaches Always Full

I successfully hosted our 1st barbeque last night at our new house and it was spectacular! My husband's employees and families arrived in the late afternoon and we spent the evening watching the sun set on the beach, while we put our new Summit Platinum D6 grill to good use–a grill I highly recommend. I seared wild salmon I had purchased at my favorite fish market downtown and basted it in an apple-lemon-walnut sauce. My recipe was a huge hit–all of our guests adored it (and me, of course).

« More liquer, sir?

A Perfect Day!

I've been a model since I was 12 years old, but until recently I hadn't discovered my passion for acting. I think it will be less boring. Today I finally got a call back from my talent agency regarding my latest audition, and my hard work and dedication got me a 2nd audition!! I'm so excited...

I auditioned for a role in a new soap opera called The New World. The cool part about it is that the show is based in a small New England town during the late 1700s... and I don't think there are any other "period piece" soap operas on TV. We even got to wear the 18th century dresses during the audition, which are incredibly heavy and hot. I don't know how women suffered through all those layers and wires... perhaps that's why women didn't work or exercise or join their husbands at the saloon for a little fun–because they were always trapped in huge, heavy, awkward clothing. I know I wouldn't be doing anything but tending to the home if I had to wear that much clothing all the time.

The Day Gets Even Better
To celebrate my second audition, I stopped at the Galleria on the way home and totally hit the jackpot. These beautiful Christian Lacroix heels were stuck in a Marc Jacobs box in the Saks' clearance section and I couldn't believe my eyes (or luck!). Absolutely gorgeous!

« I'll be wearing these new shoes at the Soap Opera awards one day. (Or, that social next week with my husband, since they match my magenta taffetta dress perfectly!)

New Blogger, New Wife

I just started this blog today. I've been a bit bored around the house, since my husband has recently gone back to work full time since our honeymoon (which was actually back in March). I really liked my writing classes in college so I decided it would be a good idea to start this; and, perhaps, "make me grow as a person", as Michael says, at least more than my usual activities like shopping, picking out beautiful new things for our house, etc.

I also just want to let people know that being a stay-at-home wife is harder than our current society gives credit. It's a lot of work! Everyday I have tons to do, plus, I always have to look beautiful not only for my husband, but for everyone around us. Its not like I just sit and watch soap operas all day in the air-conditioning. I strive to be the best wife a man could ever wish for–and not just physically–on every level. So getting back into my writing I think will be a very important part of my personal development, and life as a new wife.

My Shopping Finds Today
« I've been painstakingly going through literally every estate sale and antique shop on the west coast of Florida looking for a perfect vintage chandelier for our foyer, and I think I finally found the one! Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, its French vintage! It gives off the most immaculate soft light.
